Assistant Professor of Radiology, Harvard Medical School

I am the Clinical Director of Interventional MRI and Associate Director of Advanced Multimodality Image Guided Operating (AMIGO) Suite at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. I have 20 years of experience performing image-guided interventions including thermal ablations of tumors in the kidney, liver, adrenal, bone, soft tissues, and lung as well as MRI guided biopsies including the prostate. In the last 15 years, I have performed over 600 ablation procedures using radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation and cryoablation under both MRI and CT guidance and have considerable experience with intraprocedural monitoring and navigation systems and the translation of technological advances into the interventional suite. My research includes the development and clinical application of new technologies for image-guided interventions. I was PI NIH funded R01 study (R01CA152282) for a computerized monitoring tool for MRI-guided cryoablation. I have worked with the scientists and engineers in AT-NCIGT to develop software and hardware tools for MRI-guided prostate biopsies and used these in more than 500 clinical cases. We have published a series of papers in high-impact journals. Recently, we developed a robotic system for MRI-guided prostate biopsy under an NIH-funded R01 project (R01CA111288, PI: Tempany) and tested in two patients successfully. The technology was transferred to Physical Science Inc. and extended for potential commercialization under the NIH SBIR program (R44CA224853).
