Lauren O’Donnell, PhD and Yogesh Rathi, PhD Receive NIH Research Grant to Study White Matter in the Brain

Lauren O’Donnell, PhD, of the Department of Radiology, and Yogesh Rathi, PhD, of the Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Radiology, received a National Institutes of Health (NIH) RO1 grant for their research project, “Mapping the Superficial White Matter Connectome of the Human Brain Using Ultra-High-Resolution Multi-Contrast Diffusion MRI.”

In their project, O’Donnell and Rathi will study the organization of the brain’s superficial white matter, a layer of white matter below the cortical sheet that is integral to brain connectivity.

More broadly at the Brigham, O’Donnell develops technologies for understanding the organization of the human brain. Rathi’s research focuses on areas of signal and image-processing, statistics, control theory, machine learning, computer vision and related applications to solve problems in medical imaging.

The NIH is the nation’s medical research agency, supporting scientific studies that turn discovery into health.
