Stephan E. Maier, MD, PhD was elected to the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine’s (ISMRM) 2024 Fellows of the Society

Maier elected Fellow of the ISMRM for his outstanding and pioneering work in the development of motion robust diffusion imaging methods and of quantitative flow measurement methods.

The distinction of Fellow of the ISMRM is conferred on those who have made a significant and substantial contribution to research in a field within the society’s purposes, who have contributed in a significant manner to the development of the society and/or any of its predecessors, who have made a significant contribution to education in MR, and/or who contributed to the field in its clinical or scientific development.

Maier was honored for his discovery and development of a new MR diffusion imaging technique called line scan diffusion imaging — which provided robust and largely artifact-free diffusion images on the MRI systems available at the time — as well as his research on using MRI to obtain quantitative information on blood flow.

The International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine is an international, nonprofit, scientific association whose purpose is to promote communication, research, development and applications in the field of magnetic resonance in medicine and biology and other related topics and to develop and provide channels and facilities for continuing education in the field.
